The WEN 5500-watt generator is powered by a 389cc (13HP) engine and delivers 5000 rated watts. When you need extra power to start certain appliances or equipment, the generator delivers an extra 500 watts without faltering. Look at the chart below for information on starting and running watts required for the most common household and job site equipment. Job sites require generators that will power all equipment necessary to make construction easier and safer. The generator must be capable of powering the tools of the trade and the WEN 5500-watt generator delivers. This generator will power the saws, drills, compressors, and other equipment construction workers use. During household power outages, the generator has the wherewithal to supply needed electricity to all the critical appliances/equipment to keep the occupants safe and comfortable. The generator is also very capable of powering any equipment in use at sporting and social events. The WEN 5500-watt generator complies with the latest EPA requirements and meets the USDA Forest Service standards for use in U.S. National Forests. Power Outlets and Features The WEN 5500 has a number of power receptacles. There are four 120-volt, 20 amp, three-prong receptacles that are the most familiar to most of us. A twist-lock, 120/240-volt (L14-30), 30 amp outlet is also on the power panel for use when either voltage is required. The cigarette-lighter-style 12V DC outlet is for battery charging and powers any 12V DC piece of equipment with a cigarette-lighter-style plug. The power indicator light, directly above the receptacles, informs the user of the status of the receptacle. If the light is on, the power is on. No need to look at a meter. A digital hour counter, which accumulates the run time hours, helps in deciding on the timing of required maintenance. Starting the WEN 5500 generator is as easy as pulling a couple of times on the manual starter. In most cases one pull is all that is necessary. Once running, the generator stays stable on the ground thanks to the two rubber motor mounts, two wheels, and the solid 1-1/4-inch tubular frame. The 6.5-gallon fuel tank holds enough gas for 11 hours of run time at half load. The included mobility kit makes moving the generator a breeze. Should routine check of the lubricating oil level be missed, the low oil automatic shutdown feature prevents damage to the engine. The Running (Rated) Wattage corresponds to the maximum wattage the generator can output on a continuous basis. The Starting (Surge) wattage corresponds to the maximum amount of power the generator can output for a short period of time. Many electrical devices such as refrigerators require short bursts of extra power, in addition to the rated wattage listed by the device, to stop and start their motors. The surge wattage ability of the generator covers this extra power requirement.
